Key of Solomon · Figure 12

The Second Pentacle of Saturn

Saturn ♄︎ · Saturday · Lead · Black

What it is for

Protection against adversity, and for humbling proud spirits.

Its virtue

This Pentacle is of great value against adversities; and of especial use in repressing the pride of the Spirits.

The Key of Solomon the King, Mathers (1889), Figure 12. Public domain.

What is written on it

The famous SATOR AREPO TENET OPERA ROTAS word square. Mathers notes its 25 letters plus unity make 26, the number of IHVH.

The versicle

“His dominion shall be also from the one sea to the other, and from the flood unto the world's end.”

Psalm 72:8

How it is made

  • Engrave it in lead on a Saturday, in an hour of Saturn. Made in the planet's metal, it needs no particular colour.
  • Or draw it on virgin paper or parchment, exorcised first, in black, the colour of Saturn.
  • The material must be new and never used for anything else. Metal is first purified by fire.
  • The size is up to you, as long as it is made by the rules. Burn the incense while you work, and be pure in body and mind.
